Sunshine Coast Activities

There are many wonderful family or personal activities for you to do on the Sunshine Coast. From the cabin:

1. Explore the Klein lake area by walking south from North lake. You can walk all the way to Ruby Lake by following the Sunshine Coast Trail. It is a very pleasant hike with spectacular views of both Ruby and Sakinaw lakes.
2. Canoe North lake or take your canoe to Klein lake, Waugh Lake, Ruby lake or Sakinaw lake. All lakes are with 10 minutes from each other and provide days of pleasant canoeing.
3. Kayak Waugh Lake or the Sechelt or other ocean inlets around Egmont. There are three different companies who rent ocean kayaks within 10 minutes of the cabin.
4. Walk the world famous Skookumchuck Trail and see the Skookumchuck rapids. Have a picnic by the rapids. View the kayakers challenging the massive forces of nature. On a three meter tide over 200 billion gallons of water flows through the narrow Skookumchuck. It is truly breath-taking to view the tide changes. The trail is 10 minutes from the cabin.
5. Scuba dive in the Sechelt Inlet. National Geographic rates the area around Egmont as one of the fourth best dive area in the world. There are loads of sea lions, pods of orcas, white-sided dolphins and stellar seals in the area. It also has one of the largest species of octopus in the world.
6. Rent a boat and explore the ocean islets. You can rent a boat from the local general store "Bathgates".
7. Explore the world famous "Princess Louisa Inlet". Full day boat tours are offered during the summer that leave from the local pub and restaurant "The Backeddy Pub". The Inlet is spectacular and includes Chatterbox Falls. Local guides will provide information on the history of the area including a visit to local native pictographs.
8. Visit the local wilderness lodge and enjoy fine dining or arrange for local kayak tours or helicopter hiking of the local mountains.
9. There are number companies that operate out of the Pender harbour area - 20 minutes away - that will provide both saltwater and freshwater fishing charters or provide you with a private tour of the area or Princess Louisa.
10. Go blackberry picking - during the summer you can pick kilograms of delicious blackberries all through the area. They make great pies or crumble.
11. Relax on the dock or by the lakeside fire pit and then enjoy the warm and clean water of North lake.
12. Plan a marshmallow roast at the lakeside fire pit and be awed by the amazing beauty of the Milky Way at night. The view of the stars and planets is breath-taking.
13. Enjoy an amazing Italian dinner at the Ruby Lake Resort - only 10 minutes from the cabin.
14. Visit the local Egmont Museum and learn about the local history of the Egmont area.
